David not writing for Series 2

It was confirmed on 11th June that David definitely is not writing an episode in the second series of Doctor Who, due to the fact that he is writing and filming Series 3 of Little Britain. This scotches rumours from the Sunday Mirror (1st May).

Digital Spy reports:

A Doctor Who producer has denied rumours claiming that David Walliams is to write an episode of the show's second series.
The comedian's sense of humour was considered to be perfect for the show, according to a report in the Sunday Mirror last month. However, David is currently too busy with Little Britain to take on any other commitments.
"Unfortunately there's no truth in the rumours about David Walliams - though we all think he's a genius," producer Phil Collinson told The Mirror.
"David is writing the third series of Little Britain and then there's the small matter of actually filming it. So I reckon he might be too busy for a while yet."

Matt and David to Cameo in Series 2

According to The Sun (April 21st 2005) Matt Lucas and David Walliams are also being lined up to appear in the next series of the new BBC production of Doctor Who in an acting capacity. The pair both want cameos in the hit cult show. Matt is good pals with Casanova co-star David Tennant, who will take over the role of the Time Lord from Christopher Eccleston.

Nuts magazine did an article about this with an interview with David in April 2005.

Other Doctor Who Credits

Audio adventures

David played the parts of both both Quincy Flowers and Ned Cotton in the Doctor Who Audio production Phantasmagoria, written by his League of Gentlemen pal, Mark Gatiss.

As a matter of interest, Matt Lucas also has cameos in several Doctor Who audio stories such as The One Doctor (2001).

Doctor Who Night

David teamed up with Mark Gatiss from The League of Gentlemen to write three short "spoof" links for the 1999 BBC TV "Doctor Who Night" to celebrate 30 years of Dr Who. Tom Baker presented the programme and quite a few of the old cast popped up to talk about their time on Dr Who. Please note that David's done quite a few things with The League of Gentlemen, including Mash and Peas do the USA. For some interesting rarities try Gail's Site.

The three Doctor Who Night sketches were:

  • The Pitch of Fear, where David pitches the original idea of Dr Who to Mark Gatiss' version of the then-BBC-controller, Sydney Newman.
  • The Kidnappers, where he kidnaps Peter Davison for his and Mark's nefarious purposes.
  • The Web of Caves, where he plays the chief alien, determined that Mark's Dok-tor will "stop him" performing an evil scheme

There are various sites with pictures and reviews of these sketches. You may need to scroll down these pages to find them.
