What the fans thought

Nancy at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Saturday 10 February 2007

I saw the Little Britain Live show last Saturday 10/2/07 and thought it was the best thing I'd ever seen.  We had the big screens showing some of the audience before the show which was funny but I just wanted it to hurry up and get the show going.

When the guys came out as Lou and Andy I screamed, clapped and cried.  I was just so darn happy to be finally seeing them live.  The Des Kaye sketch was hilarious and disturbing all at the same time.  Most of the sketches went off without a hitch except for the Maggie & Judy sketch where David lost his place and they had to re-do some of the sketch.  And they got a bit off track with a long adlib during the Mr Mann sketch where David asked Matt if he liked men's bottoms and where David asked why he was the last to know that he himself was gay.  It was absolutely brilliant.  I wish I could remember more of it.  And the big envelope fell out of the big hand when it was being handed to Dennis Waterman.  But I love seeing that kind of stuff.  We unfortunately didn't have Anthony Head as the Prime Minister, Matt played the part.  It would have been great if he could have been there.

I'm kicking myself for not hanging around to see if they were doing signings.  I saw a large group hanging around the back and just as I was about to join them after parking my car when they disappeared and I don't know where they went.  I very nearly went back the next night to see the show again and I'm a little sorry I didn't.

Overall this was the best thing I've ever seen.  I laughed from beginning to end.  There were no slow moments and the whole technical staging of the show was fantastic.

Left me wanting more.

I went I just wanted to share my experiences from the Sydney show last night. Let me first say that it was absolutely brilliant. I was sooooooo excited before hand. I was almost hyperventilating when I walked into the theatre. We were in a smaller venue so they didn't have the big screens and cameras pointing at the audience. The funniest part was how hard David tried to get the poor guy's pants down. He didn't manage it a first and gave up but then he gave it another go. He ended up 69'ing the guy. All you could hear were people screaming with laughter and going 'OH MY GOD!!!'. Tony Head got the biggest round of applause when he walked on. My friend is a massive Buffy fan so she was super excited.

I really wanted to meet the guys so we made our way to stage door. Security told us that they would be doing a signing in the foyer so we walked back, but the security on that side knew nothing about it. He told us they were lying. Probably trying to get rid of us so the boys could slip out quietly. It turns out that all security are idiots. I think it was the guys manager who came out and told us that we could go in shortly. Hooray!! They said absolutely no photos or the guys would leave. A bit strict I thought. I eventually saw David walk into the room, then Matt and then Tony!! My friend freaked. I talked to Tony first. I'm sorry to say that he is leaving the country today. He said he was having a fantastic time but was leaving the next day. Next up was David. I had this hot blonde in front of me so he was
checking her out the entire time. I don't think he looked at me properly once. He was winking at her while we were in the line. I did shake his hand though and congratulated him. Matt was lovely. I shook his hand as well and then he complimented me on the dress I was wearing. I totally blushed in front of him.

When we walked away I took a sneaky picture with my camera phone. The security guard pulled me aside and made me delete it. I fumbled around with it for ages and deleted another picture on my phone so I still have the one I took of the boys. HA HA!! Its not great but i'm glad I have it.

I went along to Little Britain Live last night at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney, but not before seeing the boys at Channel Seven, for their interview on Sunrise.  David was looking handsome, and Matt was smiling and giving us thumbs up for the signs that we were holding up.  After the interview in the studio, we waited around to see if the boys would sign stuff and pose for pics.  Matt and David eventually came out, to say that they would do some signings after the show, and to thank us all for coming to meet them.  They didn't ever appear - but I will explain more further on!!

The show was absolutely great, and I was not disappointed!  Every act lived up to expectations, even though we knew what was going to happen, the audience couldn’t get enough.

Des Kaye and his public humiliation of a rather lovely looking boy was fantastic.  Marjorie Dawes picking a new member from the audience was great.  She firstly went to pick the fat guy that was taken up on stage for the Des Kaye skit, but quickly moved on after realizing this.

Most of the other skits went off without a hitch, there were really no stuff ups. The Mr. Mann skit, with a rather long improv was classic, and quite rude!! Vicky Pollard went smooth, and we all in hysterics with the Denis Waterman skit, and the way that the boys ask themselves “Why is Dennis so small”, and “Do you realize we just saw a bee larger than a dog”. Anthony Head in the Sebastian sketch was hilarious. David getting his kit off was priceless (not to mention rewarding for every female in the audience – lets just say from where were we were in the 10th row, we could see some bits poking out the back of David’s legs – I really wish we had front row tickets)

Afterwards, we stuck around inside until most people had left. To cut a long story short, we found out that they might be doing signings, but where we didn’t know. We basically followed all of the die hard fans in a loop around the Horden Pavillion, and ended up at a side entrance, waiting in line to see what would happen. A security guard eventually came out and told us that the boys have agreed to do a signing, but only of one item, and there was to be absolutely no photos or mobile phones to be taken in. We thought this quite odd, because there was only about 20 or 30 people standing in line.

We weren’t disappointed. Matt, David and Anthony all came out to do the signing. The boys remembered us from Sunrise in the morning, and apologized for not coming out to meet us. They signed some extra DVD covers for us, and we were filmed for we think a Little Britain Live Australian Tour DVD – but don’t quote me on this! Antony said that he was going back to the UK in the morning, so we didn’t know if he would be finishing the tour in Australia or not. We were totally excited after meeting all three of these great guys and seeing the show, it was a brilliant night, and meeting the boys topped it all off.

Deidre at Melbourne on 31st January 2007

I've just come home from seeing the second Melbourne show and it is fantastic, the DVD doesn't really do it justice.

Matt had trouble with Vicky again tonight and actually started laughing and said he got his lines wrong. David (while trying very hard to keep a straight face) just said, Well at least you didn't draw attention to it! Then David and Matt ad libbed for a bit, which was really funny.

Des Kaye wasn't so fortunate. The guy that David got up wasn't giving in. It ended up with them wrestling on the stage and the only thing that came off was David's wig! Those jeans stayed firmly in place!

Of course there was the usual "ad lib" during the Mr Mann and Roy sketch about David being gay and them swapping characters with David chosing paint as Andy and Matt turning Roy into Lou and Anne.

And what a wonderful surprise to see Tony Head! I was all geared up for Sebastian (for obvious reasons), but when Tony walked out I was gob smacked!

I loved the local references. It is nice that Matt and David took the time to do that. Even though we all get the British references it was even funnier with it being local.

I looked everywhere afterwards for signs of autograph signing but there didn't seem to be anything. No mind, I still had the night of my life.

I'm going again when they come back to Melbourne at the end of Feb.

Sophie at Melbourne on 29th January 2007

Just home from seeing the number one show of Little Britain Live in
Melbourne and WOW!!! Despite seeing the Live DVD nothing compares to seeing it with ones own eyes.  We were in the tenth row (about 6 rows directly behind Barry Humphries). Natalie Blair and Dan O'Connor from Neighbours were also in the audience as they were shown on the big screens. The sets are absolutely brilliant, you don't really appreciate the way the mechanics of the show with the sliding sets and costume changes works when watching the DVD.

And best of all David is more good looking and handsome live than I
could have believed possible!  And Tony Head was there as the Prime Minister!  What an enourmous applause he and Paul received.

Matt mentioned in a bit of ad-lib that David had gone through hell to
even get there tonight and I wonder what the details are behind that?

Now if you are a fellow Aussie and planning to see the show stop
reading as here is a few of the cultural references they substituted... Carol Beere refers to Broadmeadows as a shithole, Dafydd says he'd like to be a young Molly Meldrum and Darren Hayes will sing outside his jail window, and be fingered by Harold Bishop, many stores were substituted including Supre, Smiggle, Target, Best'n'Less and Nandos.  Matt found the substitution quite tricky as he lost his way a bit whilst in Vicky Pollard mode and had to be fed the lines not once but twice by David.  But this turned out to be part of the funniest bit of the show.  It is so lovely to see the boys do some genuine banter and to see the comraderie and friendship they have that so few co-workers do.

What a wonderful night! I only wish I had a bit more time so I could
have scouted out whether they were allowing autographs after the
show.  I had to get home to relieve the babysitter.

Brilliant job David and Matt!

Peter McBain at Melborne, 31st Jan 2007

I just returned from the first concert of the Australian Tour in Melbourne and it was fantastic. Matt lost it during Vicki Pollard, kept forgetting where he was in the sketch, it was hilarious.

During the Mr Mann sketch David broke up Matt by saying 'I want that one' from the paint chart (in Andy's voice). Matt responded by doing Lou and then Anne. The sketch was hijacked by David making jokes about Matt liking 'crack', I don't think I need to explain that it got very dirty, and very funny. After almost 10 minutes they returned to the sketch.

It sounds like most of the sketches were very similar to the UK tour with a lot of local references thrown in.

The biggest surprise was seeing Anthony Head appear as the Prime Minister in the Sebastian sketch. There was an audible gasp from the audience when he came on stage and a thunderous round of applause. I don't know if he's doing the whole tour here. He then came on stage during the 'I'm Gay' song dressed in an outrageous latex outfit like everyone else.

Barry Humphries was in the audience too.

It was so good I'd like to see it again.
