When the BBC announced they were releasing the full two series of the Little Britain Radio Show on CD, the fan reaction would be best described as "grumpy". After all, they'd just shelled out for a "best of" CD collection and felt they were being short-changed. But for whatever reason the BBC decided to do this (perhaps they just didn't believe the series would sell!) they've certainly come up with the goods in the Series 1 CD box set.
The packaging for the CDs is incredibly lavish with a double-gatefold sleeve, containing three CDs and a booklet. The design is very slick, keeping to the very "British" theme with one character hiding behind each disk. Each panel of the gatefold sleeve contains a character and their best known quote, against the union-jacked map of britain on the cover.
The booklet contains an interview by the BBC's own Lee Leschasin with Matt and David talking a little bit about the making of the radio and TV series. The most amusing part of this is David bemoaning Peter Andre for getting famous again. "Yeah, he's really messed it up for us!"
The contents of the disks themselves are all we could have wished for. Not only are their excellent quality recordings from the first series - pilot epiosde and four regular episodes, but the third cd has a wealth of goodies.
Bonus material includes the following:
Deleted scenes
1. Matt and David introduce the cast - David fluffs every joke too! Bless him.
2. Peter Andre - Princess Margaret's visit
3. Ray Craven's birthday
4. Liam Buckly goes for a walk (reminds me a bit of Andy of Lou and Andy)
5. Peter Andre 2
6. Anne (eh eh eh) and Laurence
7. Peter Andre - the princess arrives
8. End announcement done by Gary's Nan
9. Car Mechanic (Nan again!)
10. Deputy prime minister hospital visit (love this one!)
Outtakes
1. A few retakes
2. Sebastian
3. Effervesence
4. I am a gay (my favourite!)
5. Mr Waterhouse
6. Deputy PM - Nah, go on
7. Deputy PM - You leave my mother
8. Jeremy Rent
9. End-tro.
For me, the best bits were the outtakes, giving you some of the atmosphere of what it was like for those of us lucky enough to attend the original recordings. Also, the Anne sketch - realised in a far more sinister way than on the TV - you can really see the dark undertones of influences from her co-creators, Radio Four stablemates "The League of Gentlemen".
All in all, an excellent package! Go out and buy it, you won't be sorry.

Not only have I received the cd of the radio series 1, but I also received it on tape as well. The tape doesn't have the extras, just the series. (the tape is not fantastically designed like the cd though but is good if you don't have a cd player)
First of all the design of the cd was wonderfully designed, with pictures and small quotes from each of the nations favourites including Daffyd and Marjorie Dawes. Most of the sketches down on the cd were what I heard on the Best of Little Britain cd, which was released back in January, but it was refreshing to hear some new ones which i never heard before (Emily Howard on a bus was very amusing) and also recognising scenes which were shown on the tv series (e.g Leslie Joesph, the ex policeman now driving instructor)
All 4 episodes of the cd were fantastic, and enjoyable to listen to as I have never heard the radio series before. Once the last episode was finished, the extras came on after. These including Matt and David thanking people coming along and thanking the likes of Paul Putner and Tom Baker for taking part in the show, and also the Producer Ashley Blaker. After the thank yous, they did a couple of scenes which I assume were never broadcasted including one where the Deputy Prime Minister goes to a local hospital for a visit and ends up ranting and raving at one of the doctors. Finally the retakes section of the cd were good to. The funniest one being David saying "I am a gay, I have sex with men and everything.....shall I say my line now?"
I highly recommend people who haven't preordered it (its due out next week 6th of septemeber) as it is absolutly fantastic and one of the best radio shows I have ever heard. Can't wait til October for the 2nd series.

Re Releases, don't you just love them? I collect DVD and am well aware of re-releases, six months down the line studios re issue the film branded as a "SPECIAL EDITION DIRECTOR CUT EXTENDED EDITION" or what ever else they call them. Yes there better than the previous release, but your still annoyed that they re-released it in the first place. I wasn't expecting Little Britain to be another one added to the re-release list, but I'm glad they did!
The Best of CD was my first experience of the Little Britain Radio Series; I thought the 2 hours we got were great. Also David telling us in the booklet the rest of little britain not included on the CD was the worst of little britain made me think that maybe I wasn't missing much. But listening to the radio 4 repeats I realised that we were missing out. For example they missed a personal favourite of mine Cockney Film Star and his call to "Mel Gibbons". Why BBC didn't you release it all?
Realising that Little Britain was the ultimate cash cow for the Beeb, they decided to re release it! I've just got Series One and it's great, 2 hours and 45 minutes of great comedy! Including an Hour and 45 minutes of delights that weren't on the previous CD (Yes, Including cockney film star!)
The Packaging is great, a wonderful fold out 'gatefold' case similar to DVD releases, although unlike some DVD packaging theirs no slip case (I'm being picky, yes, please feel free to go all Vicky pollard and tell me to Shut Up!). I'd thought a slip case would of held it together, as after all this CD is going to be played a lot by any Little Britain fan! The graphics on the packaging are great, I especially like revealing Des Kaye's grinning face when I take out disc two!
The Radio Sketches are (of course) brilliant, and the extras are great. Although I'm going to be critical again (Boo! Shut Up!) and blame the BBC for false advertising. The 'outakes' are not matt and david messing up lines, but mearly them re recording lines, not that I'm not saying they aren't funny, I just excpected out takes.
In conclusion a great addition to any little Britain fan's collection, and it will go well with the Best of CD, and the DVD release. The packaging will look great on your shelf and will make a great companion to series 2! Can't wait for the BBC Shop to send Little Britain Series 2, hopefully they will include some of David Arnold's wonderful music!
