'Little Britain' stars argue over football
Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams have only had one major row during their ten-year friendship - over football.
"There have never been any drunken rows, but there has been a sober one," Lucas told the Daily Star. "It was 1999, the day after Arsenal got knocked out of the FA Cup semi-final by Manchester United, when Ryan Giggs scored the winner in extra time.
"David asked me what the matter was. I told him that we'd lost and he just said, 'Well that's because Arsenal simply weren't good enough.'
"I cannot tell you how much that got to me."
Walliams added, "It's true, I still don't understand his love of Arsenal. I did go to a football match once, but I just thought it was very boring. But it's been nearly ten years and it's not bad that we've had just the one major fall-out in all our time stuck in a room together."

Matt joined Vic and Bob on stage at Too2Much, Soho, to promote the release of the Big Night Out DVD. They performed characters from the series and Matt lent a hand, starring as lab assistant Les and a nutter who dons a jumpsuit to chant 'peanuts'. Matt had a baseball cap and a black coat on but David was just wearing the same thing as when we saw him.

PARTY PEEPER - INSIDE GOSSIP FROM LONDON'S SHOWBIZ NIGHTLIFE
"Has David Walliams tired of Glam blondes? I saw him at a recent launch party with his parents in tow. When the party-loving comedian was aked if he'd sign a fan's breasts, he stepped back in horror. Hmmm, I wonder how he'd react if his mum wasn't looking?"

I didn't really understand what she meant but she then said "Me and him walk off together and 'the snog' tends to follow me."

There was a photo of David on the Jonathan Ross show (17th June), when he and Jonathan went to Laser Quest with Jonathan's family for his wife's birthday. Apparently David shot Jonathan's daughter in a zone where you're not meant to shoot. Ross said David was evil. Derren Brown was also at the game (see photo below).

HELLO, PET
"He once described the Pet Shop Boys as looking like a city gent and his rent boy - but that didn't stop funnyman David Walliams enjoying the company of PSB Neil Tennant. And it's a breath of fresh air to see the Little Briton - at the Tracey Emin party at Momo restuarant - without a laydee on his arm. He seems to be running away from Get Me Out Of Here motor-mouth Janet Street-Porter. Can't say we blame you."

Then again on the TV land page.

TV STARS EAT TOO...
"Didn't David Walliams' mother tell him that snacking between meals would ruin his appetite? Our spies caught the Little Britain star eating both nuts and olives in the bar at posh London eaterie The Ivy. Bet he could't finish his dinner later. I mean honestly..."

David Walliams has landed a film role with The OC's Mischa Barton. The comedian will play an Italian fisherman in The Decameron opposite Mischa who is starring as the leading lady, Pampinea.
The movie is based on a 14th Century tale about young Florentines during the Black Death. David filmed his scenes in Rome over two weekends and is currently writing a third series of Little Britain with co-star Matt Lucas.

Vogue (21 April) ran this story about David's fashion sense, after he was spotted shopping for in Prada.

DAVID WALLIAMS may like dressing like a laydee, but he enjoys shopping for his more manly days too. The day before picking up both the Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Performance gongs at the Baftas on Sunday night, Walliams was spotted browsing his favourite Bond Street shops and looking particularly pleased with himself as he left Richard James and Prada carrying plenty of new acquisitions. A regular sighting at London Fashion Week, where he takes his pick of the front rows and has joined the throng of celebs at the FrostFrench show for the last two seasons, Walliams is clearly at home on the fashion scene, no matter what he's wearing.

A picture of David with a bunch of yellow roses, similar to that printed in the Mirror on 9th April, appeared in Brisbane's Sunday Mail on 17th.

There was a tiny "spotted" in the Mirror (18th April): "David was spotted taking a brunette to lunch in Primrose Hill."

There was an article in the Daily Mirror (16th April) with a similar story to that in the previous day's Evening Standard:

WALLY'S MATE WILLY! David and Robbie look for laydees.
THEY usually can't move for laydees but two of Britain's most eligible bachelors failed to pull in spectacular style on a recent night out. Robbie Williams and Little Britain star David Walliams hit London townon Thursday. Their mission? To snag some gorgeous girlies. Unfortunately, the dynamic duo - who recently dressed as transvestites for a Comic Relief sketch - went home empty-handed.
Wearing a cravat and waistcoat, while smoking a strange little brown cigarette, the Robster obviously decided to replace David's regular camp sidekick Matt Lucas. The pair, and a few male pals, started the night by dining out at upmarket restaurant Nobu, before heading to West End nightclub Funky Buddha. "When they got to Funky Buddha, it was still early," our spy confides. "Robbie wasn't happy because there weren't enough women about. "So they decided to go on the prowl somewhere else first and came back to the club around midnight."
Rob, 31, who hid behind dark shades for much of the night, convinced funnyman David to try out Soho House. "They clearly crashed and burned there," says our insider. "It wasn't long before they were back at Funky Buddha. "They got themselves a table in the VIP area and Rob, who was only drinking water, hit the dance floor."
The Angels crooner, who now spends most of his time living at his LA pad, is back in the UK for a record company meeting. A close pal of the star admitted Rob finds it "tough" when back in Britain. "He's at a loss for something to do and has few close friends to spend time with. "Though David and Robbie only really got to know each other while filming the Little Britain sketch, he still regards him as a close mate. "Rob's problem is that he's lonely and doesn't have many friends to hang around with. "It depresses him and, because he's had alcohol problems in the past, he can't go out and have a drink like other guys." Poor Rob's also suffered a string of failed relationships, being linked to (among others) Rachel Hunter, Geri Halliwell, Nicole Appleton and, most recently, probation worker Lisa Brash.
He was forced to cut all ties with Brash when she sold a kiss and tell to the Sunday papers. "It's not that easy for Rob to meet women," says his mate. "He went out on Thursday hoping to hook up with someone but, although he and David got a lot of attention, they went home alone." Will their luck change?
Sorry, boys, computer says no!

There was an article about David in Evening Standard Lite (15th April). The article featured a picture of him and Robbie Williams on a 'lads night out'. They were spotted by reporters outside out of one of  London's most 'chic' restaurants (Nobu) last night as they headed for two of London's trendiest night clubs (the Funky Buddha and Soho House). The paper labelled them as "the dynamic duo of style"!

The Daily Mirror had a snap of David (9th April) carrying a bunch of yellow roses.

In Heat he was in the spotted section with Jimmy Carr walking together in Regent Street (no pic, just the little bit of text).

According to OK Magazine, March 22nd, David has bought a new house.

David Walliams has bought Noel Gallager's former pad, Supernova Heights - much to the annoyance of the Oasis star, who was hoping to buy it back from the actress Davinia Taylor. The Primrose Hill pad is just across the road from Davinia's pals Sadie Frost and Jackson Scott.

According to The Sunday Times (13th March) David is looking for a new home.

Camp comedian David Walliams, of the award-winning television series Little Britain, looks to be deep in the money. The actor, right, has been scouring celebrity haven Primrose Hill, in north London, for a five-bed house, say local agents. “He’s got £2.5m in his back pocket and he’s looking for something with 3,000sq ft,” explains a source. Walliams, who has a reputation as a ladies’ man, can regularly be seen in the pubs of Primrose Hill boozing with blonde girls from the telly, such as Denise Van Outen.

In the Radio Times there is a tiny piece about David questioning whether he can sing, and drawing a comparison with his supposed likeness to Mario Lanza.

There was a small item about David and his pink tshirt in the Daily Mirror (28th March)

There's a tiny picture of David from the Spotted section of Heat (27th March)

Nuts magazine ran this article on Matt in their end of March issue:

Sunday Express 20th March 2005

Little Britain star David Walliams has a new addiction, I can reveal. No it's not nubile young women, but cupcakes. The camp ladies' man was spied scoffing eight of the fondant fancies at posh Primrose Hill grocers Melrose and Morgan without so much as a pause for breath. But that was not the end of his fix. "He bought another SIX," said my man with the marrows. "He was like a pregnant woman with a sugar craving." Well, he does like to be a lay-dee now and again, doesn't he?

From Daily Express 17th March 2005

"They are famous for portraying some formidable "laydees" in their show but the creators of Little Britain finally met their match in Westminster this week. Matt Lucas and David Walliams were paying a surprise visit to the House of Lords, when they came face to face with the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher.
"Matt and David were there during a debate on constitutional reform," says our man adjusting his wig.
"Suddenly, Lady Thatcher appeared behind them. She doesn't appear to be a Little Britain fan, as she didn't recognise them. The boys were very respectful and simply stepped aside to let her past."

Here is what George had to say about our Matt in his autobiography:

(Page 166) I suggested bald comedian Matt Lucas to play Leigh (Bowery), and we were lucky enough to get him.  I saw him one night in the Departure Lounge at Heaven and asked him whether he would consider it.  Matt said "Yeah phone my agent"  And that was that.
(Page 173) Matt Lucas was an excellent Leigh and even though we didn't become best of friends I respect his talent, though he was quite fussy and a bit oversensitive. Actually I don't really know why we stopped talking but we did have a blow-out over an episode when I was smoking in the dressing room and behaving like a drunken lout.  He was being very Dame Judi and I said "Stop being a bloody queen".
The next day he walked past me in the bar and said "Afternoon Rock'n'Roll George".  I snapped back "At least my one-liners are original baldie".
When we came back to make the Taboo cast album Matt was upset that I re-recorded his vocals to "I'll Have You All", a song about having sex in toilets which he has sung very limply.  I asked him to re-record the vocals himself but he wouldn't so I did.  I was about to take over from him in the role of Leigh and I felt I performed it with more conviction, but he sent me a nine page email rant.
Things got very Bette and Joan after that and he refused to speak to me which is just as well because I didn't fancy being turned to stone.  Matt sang two tracks on the record, and they were my songs anyway, so I sill don't really understand what he was going on about.
Philip (Sallon) was always saying "That Matt Lucas is a social climber" which is classic coming from Philip, who was hobnobbing with Gareth Gates and Chris Eubank at the time.  I think Matt takes himself a bit too seriously but the rift was just that, not an epic drama.  It all seemed a bit pointless actually

Boy George has hit out at Matt Lucas in Radio Times. Read more here.

Handbags At Dawn: Camp Stars Get Catty
Gay singer Boy George has branded Little Britain star Matt Lucas a "prissy, niggly diva."
The former Culture Club star also called Elton John a humourless dame. The singer made his comments about his fellow celebrities during an interview with the Radio Times.
Of award-winning comic Lucas, with whom he worked on the cast of his musical Taboo, Boy George said: "He (Matt) wouldn't talk about his sexuality, although he's now made the queerest show in Britain."
Boy George, who works as a club DJ and lives in New York, is becoming notorious for his outbursts.

There was a picture of David out on the town with Chris Evans and Zoe Ball in The Sun (12th March).

Theres a couple of quotes in NME (10th March) from Matt and David talking about New Order.  It says....

What do New Order mean to you?
David - The soundtrack to my life.  I got into them at the time of "Technique" and went back into them.  The whole rock/dance thing we're still getting over aren't we?
Favourite New Order song?
David - "Run".  I know all the lyrics!Matt - "World in Motion" because I think Keith Allen's brilliant

There was an article in the Daily Mail (19th Feb) about how they tried to trick the 30 'most red-blooded' celebrities into thinking they had a secret admirer by leaving 10 red roses at their house with a card telling them to text a mobile number if they wanted to find out more. David courteously replied, asking who it was, but didn't want to meet the 'secret admirer' as he didn't know them.

David was spotted by Heat magaine (19th Feb) "browsing Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street, London."

David was quoted in the Times review of the premier of Acorn Antiques (10th Feb):

"Victoria is an icon of British comedy. As for whether younger comedians are cruel, I don’t really want to get into all of that,” said Walliams. “Victoria’s a very warm person, you can see that in everything she does. She’s a national treasure.”

A: Well, we were on holiday in the same place. I saw him a bit.
Q: Did people assume you were an item?
A: Ha! No, I had my girlfriend with me so it was all right.

Jonathan said at this point that they could get David Walliams round to join them, as he is looking pretty fit and muscular at the moment. "Hot Romance? Rachel could be in luck here - fearless Leo men aren't scared of chatting up rich, successful and very beautiful women (as David's previous romantic track record has shown).
Sexual Sparks? Aries girls like their men to be strong and manly in bed. So if David wants to score with Rachel, he'd best only cross-dress when he's on the Little Britain set.
But could they live together? If he's a typical Leo, David will need his space and independence, but he could be left out in the cold by his even more independent Aries partner.
And what would their babies be like? Like their fire sign parents, they'll demand lots of attention - and they'll probably get it too!"

David was spotted at Tuesday 21st June's premier of the Steve Coogan film "Around the World in 80 days". He was seen standing with Jimmy Carr and was also seen chatting to John Leslie's ex, Abit Titmuss. Thanks to HappyDaiz and Lisa of the forum. There are tiny pictures of the event on wireimage.

Eh eh ehh have just (well a few hours ago) seen Mr Walliams. I am not
a liar! :-) Project76 were at the Dylan Moran show at the Palace
theatre and he appeared right beore our very eyes wandering down to
the front row seats. I know he's a very tall man but he was with his
mini-me reece from The League of Gents so he looked even bigger.
Being Heat Magazine for comedy celebs like wot we are, I also spotted
Nick Forst walking past outside twice and again in the bar, and Simon
Pegg and Tamsin Greig inside. David was very chirpy and stopped to chat to a
fan, giving them an autograph from him and Reece. Dylan Moran was
bloody hysterical.

OK Magazine (18th May) had two articles related to David. The first was a photo of him at the Attitude Party (4th May) and the second in the Hot Stars supplement and was about Matt's 30th Birthday party.

Heat Magazine (11th May) had a 3 page (pp72-4) photo spread on Matt's birthday. They reckon David was dressed as Clarence, a Dick Emery character from the 70s.

Also, Spotted saw: Matt Lucas wearing an Arsenal scarf while having a coffee with David Walliams outside Starbucks on
Englands Lane in Belsize Park, London.

OK Magazine printed a little picture of David in their letters page (5th May)

Jamie Theakston's interview with Heat Magazine (April) mentions David a few times.

Jonathan Ross talked about David twice on his radio show on BBC Radio 2 on 8th May. The first story was at about 10:45 if you want to hear it on the listen again service. Jimmy Carr was his first guest, and he started to relate a story which involved David, Jonathan commented on David's tallness, and then declared that David was over at his house last night.  They were playing a parlour game called "Werewolf" (read more the game Werewolf here). Apparently, Jonathan got knocked out early on and went upstairs to sulk, retreating to his bedroom and donning a punk bondage top and a pair of jodhpurs. David got knocked out of the game soon after, and joined Jonathan upstairs. David decided to join in this game of dressing up, and put on a pair of latex trousers, stripped to the waist with just a neck tie on, and a pair of snowboarding goggles on. Also, Jonathan just mentioned David and Matt at the end of his show. He was talking to David Benson, an actor who has put out a CD reading Kenneth Williams diaries, was talking about Williams' contemporaries, ie, Frankie Howard. Jonathan asked who their modern equivalents would be - David and Matt got a big mention.

David attended the Attitude party on 4th May. Rex features have some pictures.

Matt Lucas held a "Britain" themed costume party for his 30th birthday at the ICA, London on 30th April. David arrived as a 1960s dandy. Adam and Joe talked about the party on their Radio show that weekend. The Sunday papers printed pictures the bash. Both the News of the World and the Sunday Mirror ran stories. Rex Features had some thumbnails.

Matt and David paid tribute to another comedy double act at a gala in celebration of Laurel and Hardy on 26th April.

On 2nd April, the Sun reported that that David was seen out in a london club.

31st March - David has recently been spotted in the 'Food for friends' veggie restaurant in The Lanes in Brighton.

Both David and Matt were 'spotted' in OK Mag (31st March). Matt "enjoying the vocal talents of Hot Stars staff on Playstation 2 Singstar Karaoke at Destinos on Swallow Street, London, and David "outside Starbucks".

There was a photo of David in Heat (30th March, p75) in jeans and a bright pink t-shirt (scan here). Similarly, David was spotted in the Daily Mirror.

David was spotted by a fan at the premier of Shaun of the Dead on Monday 29th March in the Warner Brothers cinema, Leicester Square, London. He arrived late, and in the company of David Baddiel and Morwena Banks. No photos - although loads of Matt!

David was pictured in the Daily Star Sunday magazine spotted section (28th March), apparently in Belsize Park looking "lovely and ruffly haired in a green military style jacket".

David was Spotted in OK Magazine on 25th March:

Fan Jammy managed to get some photos (1, 2, 3) of David at his Verge gig (see 30th Jan below).

David was spotted by fans Dan and Bern on 17 March in Burlington Arcade London looking in some rather expensive jewelers shop windows. He was wearing his suit and talking on his phone.

David was shown on the red carpet of the Starsky and Hutch premier programme on ITV1 early on the morning of 16th March (repeated on ITV2). He was signing autographs for people in the crowd and looked rather elegant in a black suit, and that white scarf of his. In NOW magazine (20th March) David was in a picture with Ralf Little at the Starsky & Hutch premier. Apparently, on the ITV2 footage, David was "carrying a handbag or something that looked like one!"

The Chris Moyles Website had a report on the premier including this photo.

David was interviewed on the Jo Whiley Show at the premier of Starsky and Hutch. He and Matt were fans of the original series. Mysteriously, Jo was told before the interview that she was not to ask him any questions about his personal life. David said on the show that he particularly like David Soul and says he hopes the rumours about a re-release of his single 'Don't Give Up On Us Baby' are true: "He actually was a guest star in the second episode, so me and Matt are massive fans of his. Beautiful song, beautiful voice! I can't believe he didn't go on to be a massive, massive film star because he looked amazing, brilliantly talented actor. I mean in the little scene he did with me in 'Little Britain', you could just tell you were working with an absolute top class actor, and I think he brought out the absolute best in us." 'Starsky and Hutch' hits UK screens next Friday. Read more about it in the BBC Article.

David was at the Pet Shop Boys charity gig at London's Barfly on 6th March. He was spotted by on of our readers, Justin, and then at the aftershow party at Vic Naylors in Clerkenwell, mingling with the guests until the early hours of Sunday morning. This was confirmed on Popex.

In the Popbitch newsletter (4th March 2004) it said "George Michael is back to his disco best thanks to an inspired cover of The Ones' Flawless on new album Patience. At his recent album playback he insisted on rushing off at 9.30pm. George confessed he was a huge fan of Little Britain and had forgotten to tape the show. George explained that he got into Matt Lucas and David Walliams through the earlier Rock Profile series. He used to ring up and laugh at Geri Halliwell whenever she got the piss taken out of her on the show. He said Geri was upset at first, but was re-assured by George telling her "You really are like that, dear."

David and Matt were spotted by one of our readers, Tom, on 26th Feb in the front row of the audience of Pirates of Penzance in London's west end, which stars Little Britain regular Tony Head.

Heat Magazine must have their own full-time David stalker working for them - "A very smart looking David Walliams wearing a black velvet jacket and looking lost in Oxford Circus." (25th Feb 2004)

David was spotted in the front row in the Saachi gallery at London's Fashion Week. (24th Feb)

Heat magazine (20 Feb 2004) reported on David's DJ set in their Spotted section. The wording was almost identical to our Spotted item below!

David was photographed in Attitude Magazine (scan) at the DiscoTeq party. (Feb 2004)

David did one of his rare DJ sets on 30th January 2004 at "Fanclub" at the Verge, Kentish Town. Other celebs spotted were Edgar Wright (for about 10 mins), Mark Morriss of the Bluetones, Josie Derby, Julian Barratt of The Boosh, and Julia Davies from Nighty Night. Reports are that it was a fun night and "heaving". David's set included the usual treats (tracks from David's favourite, the Pet Shop Boys, such as "It's a sin", tons of Smiths and New Order) plus, ironically, "I'm not scared" by the Pet Shop Boys, which features Patsy Kensit on Vocals.

A "mad fan" of David's was featured in Now magazine. Here's a scan.

In Heat magazine (24th Jan 2004), in the Spotted section, it says - "A really rather sexy David Walliams seductively nibbling a banana as he walked down London's Oxford Street".

A fan emailed us having spotted David: "The lovely David Walliams yesterday [was in] in HMV Richmond, I was so suprised! He was looking at the Bob Dylan section with a friend"

David was spotted by two of our readers in Brighton on Saturday 24th January with Rob Brydon - firstly in an arcade and then later in Hotel du Vin. They said that "possibly Rob was helping David commiserate about losing the South Bank Awards the previous night?". David was wearing "the odd combination of a suit and trainers".

Small photo of Mr Walliams at the Attitude/Discotec 1st birthday party in this month's issue. (Scan of the photo here). He is pictured with gay Popworld presenter Simon Amstell and Neil Tennant and Katy Carmichael were at the party too, lucky buggers!

From the 3AM section of the Sun, 23rd Jan - "Jonathan Ross and Little Britain's David Walliams checking out the T-shirts on sale at The White Stripes gig at Ally Pally..."

On Saturday 17th Jan, Jonathen Ross interviewed Rob Brydon, who mentioned David a couple of times. Firstly that Jonathen had got a christmas present of a book of Elvis' fashions from David. Secondly that David came to Rob's on Boxing Day for lunch and he entertained Rob's family with 'Carrot cake, carrot cake, have you any nuts?'.  He insisted on dangling Rob's WHOLE family upside down by their ankles and he wouldn't stop doing it to Rob's kids  and they ended up falling out over it (though they've since made up). You can hear this on Listen Again.

In Heat magazine (24th Jan 2004), in the Spotted section, it says - "A dapper David Walliams saying "I'll see you on Saturday," to someone on the phone, as he walked past Heat Towers in a black zip-up anorak."

In Heat magazine (6th Jan 2004), in the Spotted section, it says - 'A dapper David Walliams tapping his toes, and chatting to a female friend at a Bluetones gig at Shepherds Bush Empire'. But the gig was the night of Heresy! Our insiders say that David must have missed most of the gig and only gone there to lig with his friends, The Bluetones. Shame on you, David.

Mark Morriss from the Bluetones talks a little bit about hanging around with David and his cameo in Little Britain in his interview with You're so Old Street. (21st December 2003)

According to Rex Features, David attended the Oscar Moore Foundation Charity Quiz at Sound, Leicester Square on November 27th with Jonathan Ross and Ricky Gervais, among others. (go here for pictures although you really have to squint to see David)

According to You're so Old Street web site (15th December 2003): "The recent premiere of the Rod Stewart musical was attended by a veritable plethora of celebrities from the comedy circuit. As well as Stewart himself; Peter Kaye, David Baddiel, The League of Gentlemen's Steve Pemberton and campest man on television, Little Britain's David Walliams, turned up to watch."

According to the Adam and Joe radio show (18th October 2003), Joe said he went to David Walliams' house this week for a "Bond themed" dinner party. David Arnold and Steve Coogan were there. (thanks to David Hershman for this info)

According to You're so Old Street web site (22nd July 2003): "Since he was the advertised DJ, it hardly seems worth mentioning that Mark Morriss from The Bluetones was at the Barfly on Saturday. But since we're a little short of gossip at the moment, we'll happily point out him and his mate, TV's David Walliams, and advise everyone to try and catch a display of David's, erm, wonderful dancing in the future..."

According to Heat Magazine (17th-23rd May 2003) Spotted section: "David and Matt [were spotted] shouting to each other from opposite ends of the queue outside the Paul McCartney gig at Earl's Court, London"

David occasionally DJs at the Metro where his set has been described as a "bizarre gay indie mix" - Abba followed by The Hives followed by Pet Shop Boys followed by White Stripes followed by Take That and The Smiths. He has also been spotted dancing "shirt open, one finger on each nipple". Scary stuff indeed! Read fan experiences here and here. Have a look at a flyer from one of David's DJ nights.

The now defunct Lucas and Walliams website had a scurralous Gossip Archive which included various accounts of David-spotting. He's also been spotted around Chalk Farm.
